Red Wings add a new forward on Monday.
The Detroit Red Wings announced a signing on Monday after placing Patrick Kane on injured reserve.
The Detroit Red Wings have added a new forward to their roster.
On Monday, the Red Wings officially announced that they had signed forward Dominik Shine to a two-year deal that will cover both this current season as well as the next. Shine has been a part of the Red Wings organization for nearly a decade, but has never played in a National Hockey League game.
This season the 31 year old winger has seen a significant uptick in production as a member of the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins, scoring 11 goals and adding 21 assists for a total of 32 points over just 40 games in the AHL.
It seems very likely that Shine's performance this season earned him this new deal.
In what may very well be a corresponding move, the Red Wings have also announced on Monday that star forward Patrick Kane will be going on injured reserve. Kane will be placed on IR retroactive to January 21st but the real interesting part of this move is that it now leaves the Red Wings with room for a potential call up.
Could Shine get the call so soon after signing his NHL contract? Only time will tell.
Update: The Griffins have confirmed that Shine will be reporting to the Red Wings today so it does seem like he may very well get a chance to play in the NHL after nearly a decade of hard work at the AHL level.
Not only is the fact that Shine has grinded so long to get here rather admirable, something that will no doubt endear him to fans, but he is a native of Detroit, Michigan which will likely also help quickly turn him into a popular figure among the Red Wings fan base.
