Following the underwhelming actions by Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman at the 2023 NHL Draft, the team is now looking ahead to free agency, which officially kicks off tomorrow afternoon.

And while a trade for a high scoring forward is still a possibility, Yzerman's comments at the Draft made it sound like the fan base needs to temper their expectations yet again. Even so, it looks as though the Red Wings could be on the verge of adding some talent to the roster that is already expected to move on from several players that were there last season.

According to hockey analyst Sean Shapiro, the Red Wings have interest in multi-Stanley Cup winning forward Alex Killorn of the Tampa Bay Lightning, which would make perfect sense for Yzerman considering his history with Killorn from his days as the Lightning general manger.

Yzerman knows Killorn well, having signed him to a seven-year, $31 million extension (cap hit of $4,450,000) in 2016.

Originally drafted by the Lightning in the 3rd round of the 2007 NHL Draft, Killorn has appeared in 805 total career NHL games, and is only two goals away from 200. He's also added 268 assists.

Additionally, he's appeared in 140 career postseason games, scoring 37 goals with 40 assists. His name appears on the Stanley Cup twice thanks to Tampa's 2021 and 2022 championship seasons.

Last year with the Lightning, Killorn scored a career high 27 goals with 37 assists.
