He's been out since early November.
Detroit Red Wings foward Filip Zadina entered the 2022-23 NHL season viewing it as a crucial campaign for himself, having agreed to a three year contract extension that was seen as a show of good faith from the organization that they still believed in his potential despite his overall underwhelming offensive production since becoming a regular in the lineup.
Unfortunately, this season has been anything but positive for Zadina, who didn't tally a single goal in the nine games that he appeared in prior to being felled by a broken bone in his leg after blocking a shot during his team's November 5. victory over the New York Islanders at Little Caesars Arena. The immediate diagnosis was that he'd be out of the lineup for an extended period of time.
Earlier today, with his team now officially out of action for over a week due to the NHL All-Star break, he's been activated from Injured Reserve and will begin a conditioning stint with their American Hockey League affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins.
Zadina will certainly be looking to make an impact offensively upon his return, and so will fans. In 169 career NHL games, Zadina has tallied a total of 61 points, not exactly the kind of production that he or the team was envisioning when they selected him with the 6th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
Is he going to be able to prove that he was worthy of being extended this past summer to the tune of three years?
