The health struggles for the Detroit Red Wings are continuing into tonight's game against the visiting Carolina Hurricanes at Little Caesars Arena, and have necessitated yet another roster call up from the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins.

In the first place, veteran blue liner and 1st year Detroit defenseman Olli Maatta remains unavailable due to an illness. What's more, Robert Hagg has been placed on the team's injured reserve list retroactive to December 8. In Hagg's place, the team has called up Steven Kampfer from Grand Rapids:

A local boy hailing from Ann Arbor, Kampfer played at the University of Michigan and was originally selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the 4th round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He's appeared in 231 career NHL games with the Boston Bruins, Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, and New York Rangers. He played last season in the KHL before returning to North America to sign a one year, two-way deal with Detroit during the summer.
