Red Wings announce Dylan Larkin's status
Detroit's captain has been out of the lineup since the beginning of March.

Doubts surrounding the eight-year contract awarded to Dylan Larkin by Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman just over a year ago have been unequivocally dispelled. Without Larkin playing, the Red Wings have gone a stunning 2-6, while scoring just 37 goals compared to the 54 they've allowed. That came on the heels of their having dropped two straight that set off what was a shocking slide, resulting in their comfortable lead in the standings all but vanishing.
Larkin has been on the ice practicing with the rest of his teammates, but has yet to be cleared to return to action. Tonight, the Red Wings host the New York Islanders at Little Caesars Arena, and will be looking to avenge their 5-3 loss on February 27 that kicked off their losing skid. And as far as the status of Larkin is concerned, he's going to be evaluated following today's skate.
Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde stated that it's still up in the air on whether or not Larkin would be able to play tonight, but that the positive news is that he's closer than he's ever been to a return.
With 26 goals and 28 assists on the season, Larkin was on a point per game pace prior to his injury that he suffered on February 29 against the Florida Panthers, a 4-0 setback in Detroit. His 54 points are good for second overall on the team; he was overtaken by Lucas Raymond for the team point lead.
