Red Wings announce “emergency” roster move

Not the most optimistic of updates.

The Detroit Red Wings have announced an "emergency" roster move in the wake of yesterday's loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Forward Zach Aston-Reese is on his way up from the American Hockey League Grand Rapids Griffins, presumably to be in position to suit up tomorrow afternoon against the division rival Florida Panthers in the event that Patrick Kane is unable to play.

Last night against Carolina, both Patrick Kane and Austin Czarnik were unable to play after being designated last-minute scratches.

Kane's status for tomorrow has been categorized as "questionable" by Helene St. James of The Detroit Free Press

Aston Reese is playing in his first season with the Red Wings organization, and has spent the majority of the year with the American Hockey League affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins; he's scored 13 goals with 15 assists in 56 games played.

He's skated in a total of 308 NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks and Toronto Maple Leafs, scoring a total of 42 goals and 38 assists.
