The move was announced prior to today's game.
The Detroit Red Wings made the decision yesterday afternoon to waive goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic, who has struggled mightily in his second year with the team since being acquired in what originally looked at the time as a lopsided trade from the Carolina Hurricanes.
The emergence of the recently re-acquired Magnus Hellberg, who carries only a $750,000 cap hit and likely would have once again been claimed off waivers, made Nedeljkovic expendable. However, there were no takers, and he officially went unclaimed.
They've re-assigned him to the American Hockey League Grand Rapids Griffins, where he's had moderate success in getting his game back in order with a 3-2-1 record, 2.30 goals against average and .920 save percentage.
After waiving Nedeljkovc, the team suddenly had a roster spot opened, and they've filled that hole in the form of defenseman Robert Hagg, who was just activated from Injured Reserve.
Hagg has appeared in 13 games with the Red Wings this season, registering two assists along with a -2 plus/minus rating.
