The Detroit Red Wings are in a desperate fight to avoid missing the Stanley Cup playoffs for a 10th consecutive season and unfortunately it sounds like the hockey gods have no intentions of doing them any favors down the final stretch of the regular season.

Fans who have closely followed the Red Wings this season know the team has been decimated by injuries down the stretch and unfortunately that trend continued on Saturday with the Red Wings forced to make an emergency call up with their season hanging in the balance.

In an official announcement, the Red Wings confirmed the recall of 21 year old defenseman Axel Sandin-Pellikka. Sandin-Pellikka was selected in the first round (17th overall) of the 2023 National Hockey League Entry Draft and has already played 63 games for the Red Wings this season, but an emergency recall suggests the Red Wings have concerns about the health of their blue line ahead of today's game.

There have been rumblings that Red Wings defenseman Justin Faulk, acquired by the Red Wings ahead of the NHL's trade deadline, might be too banged up to play due to a lower body injury which would explain the need for today's emergency recall.

Thankfully for the Red Wings they are facing the New York Rangers, a team that is well out of the playoff race at this point.
