Red Wings get potentially bad news regarding Dylan Larkin
Could the Red Wings be without another key forward?
The Detroit Red Wings will be looking to rebound from Saturday night's 5-4 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, though the good news is that they refused to give up the entire evening, continuously battling back right to the final horn.
They'll be looking for some revenge tomorrow night against the Montreal Canadiens, whom they were blown out by last Saturday night. However, they might have to be without forward and captain Dylan Larkin, who didn't practice today. According to head coach Jeff Blashill, it was a maintenance day for the captain.
"Maintenance day," said Blashill after Monday's practice, as to why Larkin didn't skate. "Right now, he didn't practice today and I'll leave it at that."
For Blashill, he wants the team to remember what happened the last time the two teams got together.
"I'd start by saying the last time we played them they kicked our butts," Blashill said. "So that's all I really worry about. They kicked our butts, and that's what sticks in our minds. Our guys aren't watching them play on a consistent basis or watching their record or anything like that.
Of course, forward Adam Erne didn't play either on Saturday night thanks to a lower body injury suffered against the Florida Panthers on Friday night at Little Caesars Arena during the ridiculous 3rd period shot blocking sequence. Blashill stated that he'll have a better idea of the status of both players after tomorrow's practice.
Detroit will already be without the services of forward Tyler Bertuzzi tomorrow night, who is ineligible to play in Canadian cities due to his not having receive the COVID-19 vaccination.
Detroit will be looking to lower their goals against per game average, which currently clocks in at 30th in the National Hockey League at 3.44.
"We've given up too many goals," Blashill said. "To me, that would be the bigger area of concern. Sometimes it's just the games, and the games can get a little bit wild. The other night (Saturday's 5-4 loss in Toronto), the goals were too easy against and we can't give up easy goals against and win on a consistent basis."
Tomorrow's game begins at 7:00 PM EST.
