The Detroit Red Wings appear to want to sign two of their soon to be unrestricted free agents.

According to a report from Red Wings insider Ansar Khan of Mlive.com, the Red Wings have made offers to both Darren Helm and Drew Miller, hoping to avoid either player going to free agency.

The Detroit Red Wings are trying to re-sign two of their impending unrestricted free agents, having made offers to forwards Darren Helm and Drew Miller.

Khan has stated his belief that Miller will get signed before July 1st however there is more doubt when it comes to Helm.

A deal with Miller could be completed soon but the Red Wings likely will be waiting a few weeks before Helm decides.

According to Khan it appears that Helm will want to talk to other teams to gauge his value prior to making a decision on signing, and furthermore that there is no guarantee that he signs with Detroit after that process.

Helm, 29, likely will wait until after the free-agent interview process at the end of the month before deciding if he'll re-sign with the Red Wings or explore the market on July 1. Free agents have a few days to speak with other teams before hitting the market, enabling them to gauge interest and get an idea of their value.

Helm has expressed his desire to remain a Red Wing, which is a good sign for Detroit, but has also expressed frustration with his role on the team, and that could play a major factor if not resolved when it comes time to make a decision, after July 1st.
