The Detroit Red Wings made an early round of cuts on Sunday, although none of the names going home today really had a realistic shot of cracking the Red Wings roster barring a major surprise. In total 9 young men will be going home today, although no doubt each and everyone one of them will be better for the experience they had taking part in the start of a training camp at the National Hockey League level.

The players who were cut today are the following.

Mathieu Bizier

Bizier is an 18 year old center who is coming off a 68 game season in the QMJHL, split between the Rimouski Oceanic and Gatineau Olumpiques, in which he recorded 14 goals and 25 assists for a total of 39 points over that stretch.

Thomas Casey

Casey is a 19 year old winger coming off a 54 game seasons in the QMJHL with the Charlottetown Islanders. During his season he recorded 12 goals and 22 assists for a total of 34 points.

Cody Morgan

Morgan, an 18 year old center, split last season with the Windsor Spitfires and the Flint Firebirds of the Ontario Hockey League. Over his combined 66 games played last season he recorded 15 goals and 24 assists for a total of 39 points.

Owen Robinson

Robinson is a 19 year old forward who also spent last season in the Ontario Hockey League, in his case with the Sudbury Wolves. His 61 games played for the Wolves saw him record 9 goals and 32 assists for a total of 41 points on the year.

Chad Yetman

Yetman is another young man from the Ontario Hockey League. The 19 year old has spent the last two seasons with the Erie Otters and this latest saw him play in 68 games while recording an impressive 21 goals and 36 assists for 57 total points.

Marc-Olivier Duquette

The first defenseman to be cut, the 21 year old Duquette played in 50 games for the Drummondville Voltiguers of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. His performance last season included 7 goals and 17 assists for a total of 24 points on the season.

Owen Lalonde

The only other defenseman to be cut was Owen Lalonde. The 19 year old is coming off back to back season with the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League and he recorded 7 goals and 34 assists for a total of 41 points over 68 games with that organization in this latest campaign.

Anthony Popovich

The first goalie to be cut was 20 year old Anthony Popovich. Popovich is coming off a 52 game season with the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League where he recorded a 3.29 goals against average and an .899 save percentage.

Sean Romeo

Last but not least is the only other goalie cut today, Sean Romeo. Romeo also happens to be the oldest player on this list and was coming out of Ohio State University where he appeared in 17 games last season, recording a 2.58 goals against average and a .902 save percentage.
