The Detroit Red Wings have acquired defenseman Radim Simek in exchange for forward Klim Kostin. Detroit also get New Jersey’s 7th round pick in 2024 (previously acquired by SJ on 2/26/2023).

Simek is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the current season. He has taken part in 44 games so far this season with the Sharks, putting up one goal and two assists. He’s spent his entire five-year NHL career with the Sharks.

Kostin has one year remaining on his two-year, $4 million deal that carries a $2 million cap hit from when he was traded in the summer 2023 by the Edmonton Oilers, along with forward Kailer Yamamoto.

He is a former first round pick of the St. Louis Blues in 2017. He has three goals and one assist in 33 games so far this season.

Since the start of his NHL career, the 24-year-old is now up to four teams on his resumé.
