The Wings make a move.
The Detroit Red Wings have announced a relatively minor roster move, but perhaps more interesting than the move itself is what it may mean moving forward.
In an official announcement on Sunday, the Red Wings announced that 21 year old former 6th round pick Elmer Soderblom would be sent down to the American Hockey League where he will once again be joining the Grand Rapids Griffins this season. The move likely wasn't motivated by Soderblom's performance however, but rather due to another roster move coming down the pipeline.
The speculation of course is that we are about to see the return of either Red Wings forward Tyler Bertuzzi or fellow Red Wings forward Filip Zadina, with Bertuzzi appearing to be the more likely of the two candidates.
Bertuzzi has been out of the lineup since the Red Wings announced that he would be placed on injured reserve back in early December, a move that stemmed from a surgical procedure that Bertuzzi underwent to repair his damaged hand.
Head coach Derek Lalonde indicated last week that Bertuzzi is ahead of Zadina in terms of their respective recoveries, which leads me to believe this move is a precursor to Bertuzzi's return.
The Red Wings don't play until Tuesday when they will face off against the Winnipeg Jets, so the announcement of Bertuzzi's return from injury likely won't be imminent.
