This was reportedly the players' decision, as he's looking for a fresh start.
This just in, the Detroit Red Wings have placed 25 year old forward Jonatan Berggren on waivers today.
Interestingly enough, Red Wings insider Ryan Hana and other analysts are reporting that this decision came about as a request from Berggren himself as he's seeking a fresh start elsewhere in the NHL.
The former 2nd round pick (33rd overall) in 2018 has just two goals and six points in 15 games with the Red Wings this season. He put up 12 goals and 24 points in his first real full season with the team last season, but has produced at the AHL level going back for the past three years.
It's clear the kid has some skill, but he hasn't really established himself as a full-time quality NHLer with the Red Wings. It'll be interesting to see if he gets a fresh start elsewhere and what he does with that opportunity.
