Tyler Spezia was taken to hospital after being stretchered off the ice on Friday night.
Several players for the Detroit Red Wings American Hockey League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, were left shaken up after a scary looking incident on Friday night.
Griffins forward Tyler Spezia suffered a serious looking injury last night after he was on the receiving end of a hit from Chicago Wolves defenseman Alex Green. The hit would send Spezia crashing awkwardly into his teammate, Griffins forward and Red Wings 2nd round pick (55th overall) in 2020 Cross Hanas, and seemingly knocked Spezia out in the process.
The situation looked dire on the ice with Spezia needing to be stretchered off the ice, and thanks to an update from the Griffins we know that he was also transported to hospital last night after being carried off the ice.
It was a scary scene for the players on the Chicago Wolves bench as well, but perhaps none more so than Wolves forward Rocco Grimaldi, who has known Spezia for a very long time.
"On behalf of the Wolves, we’re thinking about him, we’re praying for him and we’re hoping everything is OK," said a very classy Grimaldi following the injury.
No official update on Spezia's status since he was taken to hospital has been provided as of yet, stay tuned for additional details.
