First official update on Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin comes with a host of bad news.

The Detroit Red Wings have provided their first official update on injured Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin, and unfortunately it comes with a host of bad news.

In what will likely go down as one of their most unpopular announcements of the season, the Red Wings officially confirmed that 3 of their players would be headed to injured reserve. Those players are the aforementioned Dylan Larkin, Red Wings forward J.T Compher, and Red Wings forward Klim Kostin.

J.T. Compher retroactive to 12/5
Klim Kostin retroactive to 12/7
Dylan Larkin retroactive to 12/9

Additionally the Red Wings have made a trio of callups to replace the injured trio of forwards, with Zach Aston-Reese, Jonatan Berggren and Austin Czarnik all being called up from the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins.

This is obviously a pretty terrible scenario for the Red Wings and it comes at a fairly awful time as well. The Red Wings have 4 games on the calendar this week with them facing off against the Dallas Stars on Monday, the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday, the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday and finishing off the week against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday.

The Red Wings will have to make do moving forward as they continue to battle for one of the top spots in the NHL's Atlantic Division.
