Red Wings ship out first-rounder Fabbri in trade!

TRADE ALERT!

Chris Gosselin

The Detroit Red Wings have just announced that they have acquired goaltender Gage Alexander from Anaheim in exchange for Robby Fabbri and a conditional fourth round pick in 2025.

The condition on the pick is that Anaheim will receive the earlier of Detroit or Boston’s 4th round pick in 2025, whichever is better.

The move came moments after the Red Wings signed free agent forward Vladimir Tarasenko to a two-year contract with an AAV of $4.75M on Wednesday.

With the transaction, not only are the Wings making room for that new Tarasenko deal, but adding Fabbri’s $4M cap hit has allowed the Ducks to move above the cap floor.

Fabbri was selected by St. Louis in the first round (21st overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft before he was acquired by Detroit in 2019 in exchange for Jacob De La Rose.

Last season, Fabbri tied a career high with 18 goals in 68 games.

Alexander is a young goalie, at just 22 years old, who was selected by Anaheim in the fifth round (148th overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft. He appeared in 16 career American Hockey League (AHL) games with San Diego, posting a 5-7-3 record. He has yet to play a contest in the NHL.
