The Detroit Red Wings have been busy on the opening day of free agency and this latest signing may be their biggest one yet.

According to a report from National Hockey League insider Pierre LeBrun, the Red Wings have signed veteran defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere to a new one year deal. That deal will be valued at $4.13 million, and given that this is a one year deal it will have a matching cap hit.

Gostisbehere is coming off a season that was split between the Carolina Hurricanes and Arizona Coyotes, one in which he appeared in a combined 75 games and recorded 13 goals and 28 assists for a total of 41 points. Gostisbehere also participated in the Hurricanes' playoff run, appearing in 15 Stanley Cup playoff games and picking up 3 points, all assists, in the process.

Although this deal carries a significant price tag, it remains a relatively low risk option for the Red Wings given that this is only a one year deal.
