Referee gets accidentally knocked out cold during a fight.

A surreal scene.

A fight in the Ligue Nord Americaine de Hockey, a league based out of Quebec, Canada, has gone terribly wrong and left one official in rough shape.

According to a video published online by Nicolas Ducharme, writer for the National Hockey League, 30 year old winger Hubert Poulin delivered a knock out blow to a LNAH official while he was doing battle with another player. Although it is unclear at this time I would like to give Poulin the benfit of the doubt here because of how things played out.

Poulin was busy fighting another player and his jersey got pulled up over his head during the combat. Poulin would eventually lose his balance but his opponent maintained a firm grip on his jersey pulling it even further over his head and spinning him around on the ice in the process. It was at that moment that the LNAH official would step in between the two men, and that is the moment that disaster struck for that official.

A seemingly disoriented Poulin did not realize that the man in front of him was now an LNAH official and he delivered a knock out blow that instantly dropped the official down to the ice. The official would remain there for some time and did not appear to be moving at all, something that honestly does not surprise me. Although I would like to believe that Poulin thought he was still in the fight, for the official the punch had to catch him completely unawares and that is the worst kind of blow to take.

Hopefully he's going to be alright, but there have been no updates on his status as of yet.
