Two veteran referees have been assigned to today's Gold Medal game between Canada and USA.
The Winter Olympic Games are where the best athletes in the world get to showcase their skills on the international stage, but they aren't the only ones who get to do so. Those who officiate the sports that we love also get their chance to put their years of work and dedication to their craft on display, and on Sunday two veteran hockey referees will get their chance to do just that.
It will be an international affair when it comes to the officiating for the Gold Medal game on Sunday with one official from Canada selected and one official from the United States of America selected. Both referees are National Hockey League referees which comes as no surprise given the amount of NHL players that will be involved in this game, and it will be it will be NHL referee Gord Dwyer on the ice representing Canada and NHL referee Chris Rooney on the ice representing the United States of America.
There will also be an international affair when it comes to the linesmen for this event, with Scott Cherrey and Onni Hautamaki getting the call for the big game. Cherrey is representing Canada at this event while Hautamaki is representing Finland.
Of course we are all hoping that the officials won't be a major factor when it comes to the outcome of this game. It will be interesting to see how much leeway both Canada and the USA get in this game given that it will be a pair of NHL officials overseeing the game today.
