Refs blow call that may have cost Sharks the game!

The Boston Bruins took on the San Jose Sharks Thursday night - and defeated them by a close margin of 2-1. A last-minute controversy has Sharks players and coaches upset, leaving Boston happy that they got away with one.

With just over a minute to play - the Sharks were on a power play and applying serious pressure on Bruins' penalty killers. Anton Khudobin took it upon himself to knock the net off its moorings. In normal circumstances, that's a penalty.

In this instance, it should have been a penalty shot.

The penalty shot would've been as good an opportunity as any for the Sharks to tie up the game. Now - obviously there's no guarantee they would've scored, but according to the rule book, they had the right to at least get that opportunity.

Sharks players and head coach Pete DeBoer responded to The Athletic's Kevin Kurz following the controversial missed call.

“(Khudobin) knocked the net off,” said Logan Couture. “No one touched him. It was a penalty. (The referees) just missed it.”

“Pretty clear. I didn’t get an explanation why (it wasn’t called)," added DeBoer.

Khudobin merely brushed it off as him kicking off from one post to the other and the net happened to just move in the process.

Will there be another NHL-issued apology on behalf of its referees blowing yet another crucial call?
