The Montreal Canadiens have put a veteran National Hockey League defenseman on the waiver wire.

According to a report from NHL insider Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports, the Canadiens have waived 29-year-old Zach Redmon, presumably for the purpose of assigning him to their American Hockey League Affiliate.

While Redmond only appeared in 16 games for the Habs last season, he has shown some measure of consistency on the blue line when called upon. In the 2016-20127 season he recorded 0 goals and 5 assists for 5 points and a plus minus rating of +6, and in the season prior to that with the Colorado Avalanche he recorded 2 goals and 4 assists for 6 points and a plus minus rating of +5 over 37 games.

While he's certainly not a world-beater, he is a solid depth option to have on the roster and it will be interesting to see if this results in him being claimed by a rival team.
