Christian Ehrhoff’s time with the Pittsburgh Penguins looks like it’s about over. The defenseman, who was bought out of a 10-year contract by the Buffalo Sabres, landed in Pittsburgh last season with the team hoping he would provide their blue line with some offense. The 32-year-old didn’t work out as planned, appearing in just 49 games, scoring three goals and adding 11 assists. Ehrhoff’s agent Rick Curran told Mike Halford of Pro Hockey Talk that his client will head to free agency and “has been given a clean bill of health.” “For the moment I would suggest he’ll be available come July 1.” The offensive defenseman has recorded more than 40 points three times in his career, so his talents would likely draw interest from other squads. Ehrhoff earned $4 million in 2014-15, which would be a hard salary to replicate considering the various amount of injuries he dealt with last season, including issues with concussions.
