Hockey Canada is expected to send an invitation to Jarome Iginla for the Karjala Cup, an international men’s hockey tournament held annually in Finland in November.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman has reported the good news in his 31 thoughts. Hockey Canada is using the Karjala Cup as preparation for the upcoming Olympic Games.

"It will give us a first look at potential Canadian Olympians," Friedman writes. "If Iginla doesn’t accept, it’s hard to see how he can compete in South Korea. If he does, he can see how he feels, then decide how he wants to proceed until the Games begin.

Iginla remains an unrestricted free agent,  and would be eligible to represent his country at the Olympics for the fourth time in his career. Iginla won gold medals in 2002 and 2010.
