General manager Steve Yzerman of the Tampa Bay Lightning has demonstrated unbelievable patience, and it is starting to pay off big time.

After announcing what will go down as arguably the biggest signing of the summer by locking up his captain Steven Stamkos to an eight year contract, Yzerman has pulled off another major coup.

According to a report from NHL analyst Mike Johnson the Lightning have signed defenseman Victor Hedman to a massive 8 year contract with an average annual value of $7.85 million.

It's a huge deal for Lightning, and there's no doubt there that Hedman could have commanded more as a free agent on the open market next season, but with first Stamkos and now Hedman, it's clear that the Lightning core is committed to winning together.
