Report: Avs coach fires back at Forsberg for Duchene comments

Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar hears all the noise, the rumors and speculation, surrounding his star player Matt Duchene, but he’s not giving them much credence. Specifically, Bednar heard what Avs legend Peter Forsberg had to say about the situation when he said, “I would put him in the stands… I would bench him and trade him.” Bednar was asked for his thoughts on the comment, and didn’t mince words in response, saying:

“Our focus is playing hockey and I think that’s what Matt’s done a real good job of, coming in here and focusing on playing the game, being productive and being a good pro. I don’t have any problems with the way we’ve handled it this.”

He also added that Duchene has been “a top player for us” so far this season and “I like the way he’s handling it”. Well, that’s a fresh take on a months old story. Everything surrounding the Duchene saga has been gloom and doom since the end of the 2016-17 season. Maybe there’s a way for Bednar to mend the damage done in the relationship between Duchene and the Avs front office?
