Huge news for the young rookie.
If it wasn't for the poor performance of Jonathan Bernier, as well as an injury to James Reimer, rookie goaltender Garret Sparks likely wouldn't have been thrust into NHL action so early. Now he will be getting his second consecutive start as an NHL goaltender the Maple Leafs announced on Wednesday.
Sparks had an incredible performance in his debut, becoming the only Maple Leafs' goaltender to record a shut out in his first NHL game. The performance appears to have won him the second start, and now puts tremendous pressure on Jonathan Bernier to perform during his conditioning stint or risk waivers.
