The Blackhawks may be focused on another run at the Stanley Cup Championship, but general manager Stan Bowman continues to work to secure the future of his extremely successful franchise.
On Thursday the Blackhawks announced a relatively minor signing, extending the contract of forward Kyle Baun for two more years, meaning he will be under contract through the 2017-2018 season.
Baun has spent the majority of his season in the American Hockey League with Rockford after starting on the Blackhawks roster for a brief stint that only lasted a few games at the start of the season. Baun is still very young at 23, and this signing is likely an indication that Bowman believes he can contribute in the future.
