Report: Blockbuster trade may still be imminent
KeyStone Press

A massive three-way deal was aborted seemingly at the last second on Friday evening - a trade that would've seen Matt Duchene finally be traded to the Ottawa Senators, with Kyle Turris going to the Nashville Predators. The Colorado Avalanche would've gotten a nice haul of picks and prospects as a return.

The trade likely fell through due to Joe Sakic's continued insistence on receiving a high-end young defenseman and it seems that he wouldn't have gotten one in the deal. It's rumored that Thomas Chabot from the Sens would've headed his way, and if he wasn't willing to accept him in a deal, it'll be hard to imagine what he would take.

That being said, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman believes that a trade is still in the process of being discussed between Colorado and Ottawa.

“From what I understand [the Avalanche] were getting at least one first-rounder, maybe two, and other picks depending on the quality of prospects…however, I don’t think this is over,” Friedman said on Hockey Night in Canada. “I still think Colorado is motivated to trade Matt Duchene, I think Ottawa is very motivated to acquire Matt Duchene, I just don’t know if Nashville is going to be part of this when they continue and move forward.”

Chris Johnston also mentioned that Duchene would be happy to go to Ottawa, so it's very possible that a deal is still imminent, but like Friedman states, they may just not have Nashville to facilitate it anymore.

Duchene has 10 points in 13 games despite all the distractions around him.
