Report: Blue Jackets' defenseman Seth Jones signs a huge new contract.
A very good deal for the Blue Jackets?

The Columbus Blue Jackets appear to have pulled off a terrific deal for their organization.
According to a report from Sportsnet insider Chris Johnston the Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Seth Jones to a massive new contract that will span six years and carry an average annual value of $5.4 million.
It's a great deal for Jones who earns his first big time National Hockey League contract, but it's also a great deal for Columbus who secure Jones' future prior to him hitting restricted free agency and at a very reasonable price.
There were rumors that the Blue Jackets would be the target of an offer sheet for Jones, and with this deal they avoid any potential offer that could have cost them their top defenseman or at the very least driven the price up significantly.
