Things are changing for the Boston Bruins in a major way, as they've already lost several of the players who helped make the 2022-23 season one of historic proportions for the franchise as well as the rest of the National Hockey League.
Gone are the likes of Taylor Hall, Nick Foligno, Dmitri Orlov, and Tomas Nosek. Additionally, the team is still playing the waiting game with franchise veteran mainstays Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci, both of whom have yet to make a decision as to whether or not they'll be back for one more season.
But could Boston part ways with another key element of their forward group? Don't be surprised to see it happen, according to one NHL source.
Jake DeBrusk, who recently rescinded a trade request out of Boston and agreed to a contract extension, can become an unrestricted free agent next summer. And he's going to be on the radar of a handful of teams.
“Everyone is going to be watching DeBrusk,” an NHL pro scout told Boston Hockey Now on Wednesday. “The Bruins need to know where they stand with him soon if they don’t already. If they’re going to enter the season without an extension, there needs to be some sort of mutual understanding because I think teams will line up for him next July.”
DeBrusk, who missed a portion of last season after suffering an injury during the Winter Classic, scored 27 goals with 23 assists in 64 games played in 2022-23.
