Report: Canucks call up rookie goaltender from deep in their system.

An interesting call up from the Canucks.

The Vancouver Canucks have made a very interesting call up.

First, according to a report from Matthew Sekeres the Vancouver Canucks will be without Ryan Miller for an undetermined period of time due to the fact that the veteran goaltender has come down with a case of the flu.

So obviously the Canucks need a goalie to play back up, but while one would expect them to make a call up from their American Hockey League affiliate the Uticame Comets, the Canucks have instead called up goaltender Michael Garteig from the East Coast Hockey League's Alaska Aces.

Garteig has performed well in his 6 games with the Aces this season, recording a .916 save percentage and a 2.52 goals against average over that stretch. While he may not even get a chance to play on this assignment, there's no doubt that this is a big opportunity for him.
