It appears that the Vancouver Canucks have received multiple offers for the fifth overall pick in the 2016 National Hockey League Entry Draft, a pick they currently own.

While Canucks insider Dan Murphy confirmed those rumors he also added that Canucks general manager Jim Benning is not looking to trade down in the draft. This is particularly notable because that appeared to be exactly what the Canucks were looking to do, possibly to acquire a defenseman, immediately following the draft lottery.

We believe that the trade that resulted in the acquisition of defenseman Erik Gudbranson may have drastically altered the plans for Vancouver had for the draft, and now with the team's biggest need being up the middle they may look to draft a center, perhaps a Logan Brown or Pierre-Luc Dubois, something that would require them retaining a top pick.

It could also simply be a matter of Benning playing hard to get, and waiting until the draft draws closer to gauge the value of his pick.
