It looked like Emerson Etem was going to make the team, that is until the Vancouver Canucks placed him on waivers this week only to see him picked up by the team that drafted him, the Anaheim Ducks. Now we know why.

The Canucks announced on Thursday that they have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with journeyman forward Jack Skille, who many believe outperformed Etem during the preseason and training camp, effectively pushing him out of a job.

Skille played most recently for the Colorado Avalanche where he appeared in 74 games last season, recording just 8 goals and 6 assists over that stretch, and while he will serve in a depth role on this roster, the fact that the Canucks were able to upgrade from Etem by bringing in Skille on a PTO has to be a positive. It also proves that the decision to bring Skille to camp in the first place was a solid one.
