Peter Chiarelli isn't wasting any time getting his ducks in a row.
The newly appointed General Manager is planning to have a head coach in place by the end of May, and is exploring all his options.
According to
Pierre LeBrun of ESPN, Chiarelli spoke today with Ken Holland of the Detroit Red Wings in regards to heavily coveted head coach Mike Babcock. Although h did chat with Holland about Babcock, it appears to be only a preliminary discussion and Chiarelli has not asked for permission to conduct an interview as of yet.
This means that former San Jose Sharks coach Todd McLellan and current Oilers coach Todd Nelson remaining the frontrunning candidates for the gig.
It is believed that the Oilers may hire McLellan before waiting for Babcock to make his decision on where he would like to spend his future.
Time will tell.
