We've heard the comparisons and read of his potential. How's about some achievement – a little distinction? Ontario Hockey League commissioner David Branch, a man whose overseen the development of an innumerable list of NHL prospects, provided just that, bestowing overarching praise on his latest star pupil. Branch has tabbed Erie Otters captain and future No. 1 overall draft selection Connor McDavid as one of the three greatest OHL players in league history, along with Eric Lindros and Bobby Orr. "I'm not going to rank the three of them in order, but Connor McDavid definitely would be on there," he told Mike Zeisberger of the Toronto Sun. "With the speed of the game and the size of the players, the way he can skate, the way he can make plays, the way he can stickhandle in tight spaces, there is just such a separation between him and the other players." McDavid captured a whopping 120 points in 47 regular-season games, but never really had a chance to threaten long-standing scoring records after suffering a broken hand (as you may remember) in a fight early in the season. He does, however, have the opportunity to etch his name further in OHL lore in his last handful of league appearances. McDavid has 43 points in 16 postseason starts, eight shy of the record set by Justin Papineau in 1999. Should he continue scoring at a 2.68 point-per-game pace – with as many as six games remaining in the OHL Final – McDavid will add a little more distinction: A single-season postseason performance second to nobody.
