Report: Crazy Auston Matthews stat!
KeyStone Press

Auston Matthews will lead several offensive statistical categories over the course of his career - but there's one he will never lead.

Hits.

The Athletic's Justin Bourne noticed a play against the Calgary Flames where the Leafs' superstar casually avoided what would've been an easy, devastating hit.

Matthews simply glides away from the player in question as the opportunity presented itself - seemingly avoiding a collision that could've caused injury, or put a target on his back.

Furthermore, his motivation behind avoiding the hit may have been to conserve energy, letting the likes of Matt Martin and Leo Komarov terrorize their opponents.

Bourne found that Matthews gets 0.16 hits per game - he has 4 all season. Matthews is one of those rare cases that proves you don't need to throw your body around and be physical to be a top player.

Let the skill do all the talking, right?
