Sometimes fate can be very cruel.

Despite being drafted in 2006 by the Detroit Red Wings Canadian defenseman Logan Pyett has never played an NHL game in his career, and perhaps now in a cruel twist of fate he never will.

After spending the last four years in the KHL Pyett attended the Philadelphia Flyers training camp with the hope of playing in North America this season and would eventually sign on with the organizations AHL affiliate the Leigh Valley Phantoms, but any thought of playing for the team has been cut short.

Pyett has been diagnosed with Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, a disease that is likely to require surgery to treat, and one that at times must be treated with amputation.

General Manager Ron Hextall has released this statement:

"The club asks that the media respect Logan and his family's privacy during this time," Flyers general manager Ron Hextall said Friday. "Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the Pyett family."

We hope Pyett will make a speedy and full recovery, we ask that you keep him and his family in your thoughts during this difficult time.
