Talks have gotten more and more serious regarding the possibility of a Las Vegas expansion for the NHL and today a figure for the potential expansion fee has been reported. According to a report from TSN's Rick Westhead an ownership source within the NHL has told him the expansion fee is expected to be somewhere between $450 and $500 million dollars. It's a staggering number, especially when one considers the last round of expansion fees for Minnesota and Columbus. Back in 2000 those to franchises paid $80 million dollars each for their expansion fees. Many were surprised that the NHL was looking to expand given the financial struggles of some of their franchises, however with that kind of money at stake, every owner stands to benefit in a major way.
