"Not good morale when you're losing all the time... I'm tired..."
It's been a disastrous start to the season for the Buffalo Sabres.
And that's saying something.
After all, this is a team that has fallen flat on its face for 14 straight seasons. The irony this time around though is that the Sabres usually start off pretty hot. Historically, they've been a good team in October and into November, but then they stumble and by February they're pretty much out of the running for a Stanley Cup Playoff berth. This season, they're just getting ahead of schedule and are throwing the season early, apparently...
The Sabres are 0-3 with just two goals to start the season and star forward Tage Thompson admits that the weight of the first three games is having a negative impact on the locker room.
"It's not a good morale when you're losing," said Thompson yesterday. "So... that means we've just got to find ways to enjoy coming here. I'm a big believer that negativity breeds negativity and that's kind of how we've snowballed things in the past. What's done is done, I'm tired of talking about the past."
Thompson's full comments:
I've got to say that I agree with Thompson's assertion that 'negativity breeds negativity' and if I'm involved with the Sabres at all, that phrase has me very, VERY concerned. Once the sentiment in that locker room turns from enthusiasm to apathy then the season is over, for all intents and purposes. If that negative mentality is allowed to take over the locker room then you might as well wrap the season up now. I know it sounds foolish to say just three games into the season, but this could be a disastrous campaign for Buffalo... and again, that's really saying something.
Countdown to trade request for Thompson? We talking weeks or months here?
