Report: Early signs of a possible setback in the recovery of Kris Letang.
Keystone Press

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang appeared to be well on his way to recovery prior to yesterday's announcement that he would not be able to play, and now it looks like there may have even been a setback.

According to a report from Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Letang was not on the ice at practice this morning, this despite the fact that he had a full participating, without a no-contact jersey, already this week.

Head coach Mike Sullivan has since claimed that Letang already had a planned day off for Friday, but the timing of these events are suspect to say the least. Sullivan also said that he hopes Letang can play on the upcoming trip for the Penguins, which if you read between the lines means he may still be out for a while if Sullivan's hopes are overly optimistic.

It looked like Letang was on the verge of coming back just yesterday, now the picture is far from clear.

More to come on this story.
