Report: Flames making offers on two prominent defensemen
Keystone Press

The strength of the Calgary Flames is on the blue line. Despite having top end dynamos like Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan, the team’s core is anchored by defenders Mark Giordano, Dougie Hamilton and TJ Brodie. Remarkably, one NHL insider is reporting that Flames general manager Brad Treliving is attempting to acquire another high-quality defender.

Interesting. Methot, of course, was acquired by the Vegas Golden Knights from the Ottawa Senators just last night at the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft. While he’s a quality defenseman, at 32 years of age, he may not fit into Vegas’ immediate plans. A team like the Flames seems like a much better fit for the former Sens blue liner.

As for Hamonic, he was rumored to be on the move to Calgary last season when he requested a trade from the New York Islanders. The trade buzz surrounding Hamonic died down once he rescinded his request, but might he become available again for the right return? Only time will tell.
