A shocking announcement from a National Hockey League owner has seemingly left the Calgary Flames in jeopardy Tuesday.

A breaking news report from Sportsnet analyst Eric Francis has revealed that Flames owner Ken King has announced an end to the ongoing arena negotiations between the Flames and the city of Calgary, citing that the city is not genuinely interested in helping them with the project.

That's not all however, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has also commented on the situation and while this is merely speculation, his comments felt a lot like a naked threat.

"At some point there will be consequences that will have to be dealt with," said Bettman as per Francis.

On Wednesday, NHL insider Pierre LeBrun commented the situation on Vancouver's TSN 1040, and compared the gamesmanship to the one used by the Edmonton Oilers not so long ago.

"It's hard to believe the Flames would leave, or that it's what the NHL would want," said LeBrun first hand. "But surely the pressure is on."

The NHL insider added that the Flames are putting together pressure tactics to get a new hockey rink built for the club.

"Building a hockey rink is not a priority for tax payers," LeBrun commented. "Remember what happened up the road with the Edmonton Oilers?"

Things got nasty in Edmonton before a deal was agreed upon. LeBrun reminded fans that gamesmanship was too used in that situation, which resolved itself for the better in Edmonton.

"Wayne Gretzky was seen in Seattle, it was all a game to put pressure on the city of Edmonton."

Though LeBrun believes the Flames aren't going anywhere, fans are aware that an arena is being built in Seattle, where they are intensely looking to land an NHL franchise.

Could it be where the Flames end up?
