ESPN NHL insider Kevin Weekes is reporting that the Calgary Flames have offered up Matthew Tkachuk, a 1st round pick, a former 1st round pick and two additional prospects in their trade offer for disgruntled Buffalo Sabres star Jack Eichel.

Check it out:

Obviously, we don't know the particulars of this offer or what's on the other end of the deal from the Sabres' perspective but... hoooo boy that's a whopper of an offer.

If this is indeed true, I've got to say... that's some big league, swing for the fences type of stuff from Flames GM Brad Treliving. Tkachuk himself is one Hell of a player and might even be more valuable of an asset than Eichel is himself. Add on to that four additional pieces and, to me, this looks like a no-brainer of a deal for the Sabres. After all, you have an injured star who doesn't want to play for your team anymore and you're being offered up an absolute stud like Tkachuk, plus four additional young assets? If I'm Sabres GM Kevyn Adams, I'm taking that offer all day and I'm not taking any call backs from Treliving after he changes his mind.

Again though, we don't know the particulars of this offer of whether it's even true. It's worth noting that no one prominent insiders have corroborated Weekes' report. And while Weekes himself is a respected insider, he did prematurely report that the Florida Panthers had hired John Tortorella last week. Weekes' track record isn't exactly spotless.

What we do know though is that the Flames are very much involved in Eichel trade talks. Fellow insiders like Elliotte Friedman, Frank Seravalli, Chris Johnston and Darren Dreger have been reporting on talks between the Flames and the Sabres for weeks now. Adding even more intrigue to today's rumor is the fact that Sabres insider John Vogl reports that Sabres management "are feeling added external pressure (not grievance related) to get a deal done today."

Could this finally be the conclusion that we've been waiting for? Could Eichel finally be moved and will we get to see Matthew and Brady Tkachuk compete against each other in the same division? Let's see how this plays out...
