A huge loss.
While normally an injury to a very young prospect doesn't impact an NHL club, given the Flames struggles at goaltending of late, many have high hopes for the development of Jon Gillies.
Unfortunately Gillies' development has come to a crashing halt as a result of an injury, one that will keep him out for the remainder of the season.
"Obviously it's never ideal that he's going to be missing the time that he's going to be missing," Flames general manager Brad Treliving said as per NHL.com. "For all intents and purposes he'll miss the remainder of the season. It needs to be done. We don't anticipate any problems. The majority of his rehab will be done here in Calgary, so our people will have their hands on them and we don't expect any issues."
Gillies is expected to undergo surgery next week and his recovery time is expected to be somewhere between four to six months.
