Montreal Canadiens have placed prospect Nikita Scherbak on the injured reserve, as reported by La Presse journalist Guillaume Lefrançois on Twitter.

Scherbak was injured during last Thursday game against the Los Angeles Kings. It was first reported to be a lower-body injury, but the team didn't give any update on his situation yet. He will likely miss at least a week, since he has been placed on the injured reserve.

The Russian forward was drafted 26th overall by Montreal in 2014. He played five games in the NHL over the last two seasons, scoring one goal. In 120 games played in the AHL, he registered 73 points. He had a strong start in the AHL this season, as he registered nine points in six games with the Laval Rocket before being called up in Montreal.
