You would think the offseason would be a safe haven for Leaf players who have been heavily criticized all season, but that's simply not the case. Former Toronto Maple Leafs assistant general manager Bill Watters was on TSN radio this week and he was
"I knew all of them personally, in the last 15 years because of my position as an agent and employee of the Leafs, he was absolutely in the bottom one half of one percentile, said Watters"Watters went a step further and stated that a real captain would not have let things get so badly out of control.
"When you're a captain you don't let things happen like what happened to Toronto."While Watters was heavily critical of Phaneuf, he believes the majority of the blame doesn't belong to Dion himself, but rather the management staff that made him the captain, which according to Watters was a massive mistake.
"That was not the way to make a captain, and that was not the right decision, but it wasn't Dion's."Overall it was a scathing viewpoint from a well respected former Maple Leaf.
