Report: Former NHLer accuses Leafs’ Babcock of lying to the media

Former NHL defenseman Mike Commodore has never been one to hold back his emotions. The 37-year-old has made it known over the years that he’s no fan of Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock. During Commodore’s brief stint with the Detroit Red Wings, where Babcock coached before joining the Leafs, he felt he wasn’t given a fair chance by his head coach. He chronicled the story for a Russian publication years ago, but essentially he felt like he was never given a fair shot in Detroit and that it affected the longevity of his NHL career.

Now, Commodore is weighing in on the latest Babcock controversy surrounding Joffrey Lupul and his failed medical with the Leafs. Over the weekend Lupul made waves with his own social media comments about the Leafs “cheating” their way through his medical examination. When asked for his repsonse Babcock said, “I don't know what's going on with Lupes.” Well, Commodore wasn’t having any of that. Check out his take:

Wow, strong words. With so many players coming out and accusing the Leafs of straight up lying, cheating and manipulating the NHL’s rulebook, how long until the league does an investigation? Lupul does have the right to appeal the Leafs’ decision, but it doesn’t appear as if he’ll choose that avenue. In the meantime, he’ll continue to collect his $5.25 million pay check for not playing hockey. Life could be worse, I suppose.
