The Edmonton Oilers announced a major signing on Wednesday, securing star forward Leon Draisaitl to a massive eight-year deal worth an average annual value of $8.5 million.

Now thanks to National Hockey League insider Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports we have the full details of Draisaitl's contract, including the details of the no-trade clause that was agreed to in this deal.

According to Lavoie Draisaitl's no-trade clause will kick in July of 2022 and it would be a ten team trade approved list, meaning that Draisaitl could hand pick 10 teams he would be willing to be moved to.

Now of course in a perfect world the Edmonton Oilers will never have to trade Draisaitl, however if for whatever reason the feel the need to do so, there would be no restrictions on such a deal until the end of the 2021-2022 season.

While at this time a trade seems extremely unlikely to ever come about, this is a similar situation to the one P.K. Subban dealt with in Montreal. In Subban's case he was traded just days prior to his trade protection kicking in.
