Can he do it?

Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux did not have the best seasons recently. In the past five full NHL seasons, Giroux's points have declined from 93 to 86 to 73 to 67 to 58.

Last year was particularly rough for the 29-year-old, who amassed just 14 goals in 82 games last season and was an NHL career-low minus-15.

But Giroux is ready to put all that behind and made huge promises for Flyers fans on Thursday. Asked by Philly.com if he believed he could approach a point per game again, Giroux replied, "Yeah, I do. I do think I am (an elite center). Obviously I have to prove it, and that's why I'm excited about this year."

To make sure he can fulfill his promises, the captain is said to be up to 184 pounds, six more than last season, and he increased his offseason training.

Giroux hopes to be back among the NHL’s best.
